The purpose of elements like firearms, undead, elves, berserkers and other stuff is to give the factions their own unique traits in combat. The plains people can no longer return to horseback because of the swadian knights and khergit horsemen but they can now enforce their freedom from aristocracy and raids.'
The swadian knights were crushed by the unstoppable firepower and pike walls and were forced to retreat to the forests. The rebellion was succesfull because of an inventor who provided the rebels with these new weapons. But for the last hundreds of years or so, the area has been under swadian control but neglect by the swadian nobles and constant raids by barbarians and khergits made the people of the Dhirim plains and eventually Reyvadin to rebell. Short history: Dhirim was once the capitol of an ancient Calradian empire and is also the area were cavalry was first used in combat. It is for the People's Republic which is a revolutionary faction.
